Poster App Reviews
I have a Flickr Pro account, and like to upload all my photos and videos to it as backup. Poster makes it easy to upload, tag and organize photos and videos all at one time. Much more intuitive and straightforward than doing it all on the Flickr website, where you have to upload first, then tag and organize. Poster also makes it easy to upload to Facebook and Smugmug.
Its Ok
It get this app hoping that I could upload photos to a Facebook group that I administer. It only uploads photo to your personal account.
Using Poster to upload to Smugmug. Getting errors today on random photos from the same camera roll, "The data couldn’t be read because it isn’t in the correct format.” No idea why, but I keep starting the upload again and it is hammering through. Update: Doesn’t work with Sierra. Can;t get the upload screen to show with SmugMug. Logs in select account, no app launches. Update 2: Worked after newest patch…once. Uploaded 375 photos to SmugMug, then tried to upload 230 more and the app doesn’t launch. Restarted, same result. Back to the drawing board.
Really great product for transferring files to Smugmug from Aperture! The plugin works excellent! Now I dont have to export the photos out of Aperture first to then turn around and upload to Smugmug! Great integration in the plugin! I have OS X Lion and the Aperture 3, BTW! All the latest and works great!
This seemed like a wonderful Idea, but this programs stalls while posting at about 10-20 images, and there is no way to restart the downloading once it stalls. If you want to download larger quanities at a time I would look somewhere else.
I have used this app for a while to upload to Flickr and Facebook. Great at uploading, I always use. The only issue I have is that it has problems sending to the correct Facebook page. I administer 3 pages. If I could easly set-up those accounts, and choose which one I wanted, I would rate the app as a 5. It just needs a little work on Multi-use facebook accounts. If you have only 1 account, then there is no problem working with that 1 account and would have no issue recommending it to you. Its easy to use and does a great job.
The latest update seems to have broken the Aperture export plugin as well as resulting in an error every time I try to post a tagged photo. This was a great app until now. What a waste of money…
I had written a review 4 months ago on this product and I have left it down below. I originally gave it one star back then. Well, the developers of this software have stabilized Poster quite a bit since then. They have also made the interface much better and the product now consistently works. It is well worth price and makes posting my pictures to a Facebook album really easy. Again, I left my original comment below so you can see just how I originally felt about this software and just how much the developers have worked to make me totally change my mind. Great work Steve Harris. The only reason why I didnt give it a 5 stars is because it doesnt allow one to post to Facebook Place pages. If that is ever added then Ill come back here and add the 5th star. Unstable. Crashes a lot. Takes forever to move any pictures around. Seems to get stuck on getting profile information, etc. It would be nice if it would allow you to sort pictures by filename. Regret ever spending my money on this as most of the time I either go back to Lightroom or Facebook itself to upload my pictures! I dont recommend it.
When Poster works, it works great. When it doesnt work, its incredibly frustrating. Just this morning I was working on uploading 10 pictures to Flickr. I spent 20 minutes labeling, tagging and putting my photos in sets and groups and then Poster failed to upload. It just hung after it uploaded 378KB of the first picture. If I close the program to try it again, I lose all the work I put into the pictures and honestly, I might as well upload them using the Flickr site. Its too bad, because WHEN Poster works, its great. Its just unreliable, so prepare to lose your work.
Im having trouble, but Ill wait for the author to respond before I detail my experience and adjust my rating. I submitted my problem to their support site.
Early versions of this app & its plugins were clunky to set up, but they worked great. In more recent times, uploads always fail, that is if the app isnt crashing. Dev is unresponsive & unhelpful. Waited a few versions, hoping things would get fixed, after updating today, same old problems.
Tried to upload 700 photos. The application hung numerous times at various points and was unresponsive. Quit the application and used a different app with no problems. Not worth my $20.
This app works well for uploading to Smugmug if you don’t care about GPS coordinates. I do! It seems the last update to Poster caused the minus “-“ sign to be dropped on coordinates resulting in incorrect mapping. I’ve had to go back to the Smugmug browser uploader until this is fixed. UPDATE: The newest update has fixed the GPS coordinates problem … I’ve raised my rating back to 5 stars as this app now works faster and better than any of the other up loaders I’ve tried.
I swear, the number of times I have all my photos titled and tagged then go to post them only to have the app tell me it is "waiting to start" and proceed to never start. Then I have to quit the whole thing and start entirely over again. I wish there was a better option. But pretty much every app I have ever used to post to the internet does the same crap. Why can no one make these things work?
I’ve bought Poster twice now. Previously I bought it and used it to export photos from Aperture to Facebook. It was the best option as it uploaded photos in the maximum quality that Facebook allows, which most other tools don’t, AND it maintained the order I put them in, AND it included the caption I’d entered. All wonderful things which neither Aperture nor iPhoto could muster on their own. Today I wanted to use it again, but my year-old version would no longer launch. The only way to get it to work seemed to be upgrading from v1.3.5 to the latest v1.4.1, which required re-purchasing it. I decided rather than spending hours trying to find another solution, I’d just poney up the $20 and get it from the App Store as clearly that’s the way of the future and what the developer wanted. To my chagrin however, it seems in the newest version export functionality from Aperture is no longer a thing. I was able to track down the installer for the Poster export plugins and re-install them to ensure I had the latest version, but still it doesn’t work. Aperture says it’s exporting, but then, nothing happens once it’s “done0.” Poster has no idea that Aperture has exported anything to it. Perhaps it says somewhere that exporting from Aperture is no longer supported? Maybe if I’d spent more time reading the fine print I’d have spared myself wasting $20? It’s pretty annoying, that’s for sure. I remember this being a great product, and perhaps it still is for some uses I’m not sure of, so it pains me to leave it 1 star. But, alas, I feel compelled to seeing as it doesn’t do what I used it for anymore, and I just paid $20 to get it to. Bummer.
I’ve purchased this program, and I’m running it on a Mac Mini. I’m trying to upload to a SmugMug account. It won’t even load… I’ve tried re-installing, etc. When it worked, it worked great.
